A new Nokia Distributor for China

August 01, 2007
Nokia has just signed a new distributor in China: Synnex. Synnex is a Taiwanese company; reportedly, the largest IT distributor there.

Currently, Synnex holds less than 1% of the the China cell phone market, but that is due to increase significantly with the new deal. Nokia is the leading player in China with c. 35% market share. As you can imagine, the Chinese market is growing significantly and is said to top 150 Million devices this year.

In another Chinese development: Huawei the Chinese telecom equipment and the Venezuelan state-owned telco CVG Telecom have signed a deal to jointly produce GSM handsets. Predicted to top 2 Million units a year, the production unit will be based in Miranda state, and will start production sometime in 2008. Venezuela is a "900/1800" GSM country, as many of our members are aware, and have been a source of interesting trade opportunities in the past.
