Brightpoint to buy Dangaard

February 20, 2007
In a deal valued at US$ 300 Million, Brightpoint will buy Denmark-based Dangaard Telecom. The combined company will have USD$ 4.6 Billion in turnover, more than 3100 employees and 25000 customers. The companies moved a combined 64 million handsets last year.

Dangaard being very strong in Europe, especially with their privileged contacts with European Operators will fill the gap, that Brightpoint had in this market. Now the race is on with the "other Bright": BrightStar has recently raised M$ 250 to fund a joint venture that they have with TechData. This venture is precisely going after the European market.

What effects will this have on the market here in Europe? Remains to be seen.. but if anything we think the networks will gain from the increased competition. These two giants are sure going to do their utmost best to win business, esp. the network operator business, where the real volumes are happening.
