Samsung announce a Dual SIM for Europe

October 10, 2007

A phone which can work with two SIM cards simultaneously has been a long time dream by some consumers. While Samsung's idea is not new - with Korean WND, Chinese CECT and several others already producing such phones, it is the first one to break the major manufacturer silence.

Targeted towards people who want to separate their private and work life, or benefit from various network operator offers, Samsung D880 DuoS is the first GSM handset to come from a TOP4 manufacturer with double SIM support. The other capabilities of the slider are nothing out of the ordinary - 3.2mpix camera, Bluetooth, MP3 player, FM radio.

The phone is currently only announced for Russian, Ukrainian and other Commonwealth of Independent States markets and is supposed to come out some time in November. The expected retail price is around 500-550 Euro.

The move will be highly appreciated by most of consumers, as market penetration of GSM subscribtions in a lot of countries is getting well over 100% - for example, almost 60% of mobile phone users have more than one SIM card in Russia. It is also quite obvious, that this move will be frowned upon by the network operators - and that might be the reason why the handset is only available for ex-USSR markets.

Make sure to post your wholesale offers for Samsung D880 DuoS or requests on our trading floor before it's too late!

2 Sim operating phones are of great interest in almost every part of the world especially due to the high airtime costs of different operators when call each other. Most of the previous models suffered due to software issues or so, that showed like screen freeze etc. I hope these big manufacturers, Samsung too, do solve it and give it to market for sale.
