Phone model updates
At last! iPhone unlocking available for free!
Just yesterday a group known as "iPhone Dev Team" released the full software package with instruction which allows to unlock the iPhones completely.
According to the slashphone.com website, the released solution is working fine - at least for now. There are reports floating around, that future software updates from Apple will override the unlocking - meaning that a new unlocking software package will have to be created and the whole process will have to be performed again.
While the newly released software is free - the end users will probably not be able to manage the process by themselves, which will probably not drive away too much business from the Australian company iPhoneWorldwideUnlock and the US company Wireless Imports, who are offering such service for a fee ranging from 50 to 99 USD. There are at least two more companies offering iPhone unlocking in Saudi Arabia and Germany.
As a reminder, a couple of weeks ago George Hotz, a 17 year old from New Jersey, became the first person who managed to unlock the iPhone using only software methods - for which he was awarded a Nissan 350Z and 4 more iPhones by Jerry Daidon of CertiCell. It is interesting how the new owner of the first sim-free iPhone will react to the news about the free solution - judging by the pent up supply and demand for iPhones that we see here on gsmExchange.com, this solution could have been sold for a bit more than zero Euro (to put it mildly)! With the iPhone sales hitting the millionth unit, will this new development increase sales of the Apple smartphone significantly?
