The world's largest democracy attracts Finnish giant

September 05, 2007
Nokia has recently moved to India manufacturing mobile phones for the global market. In fact with 77% of their market share, generated in India alone, Nokia is comfortably settled down south in Bangalore, the technology hub of the sub continent.

As a fast emerging economy, India is actively catering for its technology-savvy populace, importing phones from Hong Kong, mainland China (its single most important competitor in the industry) and sometimes Dubai too. As far as Nokia is concerned it is definitely leading the race, Motorola is closely following suit while the same can be said about Samsung. Other big movers in this country that boasts one of the world's most dynamic market in the industry are the smart phones such as HTC and Dopods, O2 XDAs arewidely popular too. Interestingly, there has been a growing trend of second generation Indians from the UK trying their business acumen in India's lucrative industries.

In a country of around 1.2 billion people, a large segment of which consists of very educated young professionals, India is strong demographically hence economically and whether the big players in the industry will follow the footsteps of Nokia is only a matter of time, at this stage we can rightly speculate so.
