Samsung leads the way in finding new sources of electronic power

November 16, 2006
According to Peng Lim, CEO of MTI Micro Fuel Cells, the traditional power of cellular handsets and accessories sources, such as lithium batteries, cannot continue to keep pace with commercial desires to incorporate media-rich features in the next generation of consumer electronic devices.

Since the alliance between Samsung and MTI in May of 2006, this has been the first in a planned series of joint ventures which would see the delivery of a next generation of fuel powered prototypes to Samsung Electronics, with the ultimate aim of bringing direct fuel cell commercialization into the consumer marketplace.

With the cellular phone market developing at such a fast pace, the next generation of phones are increasingly including such high powered features as satellite TV and 3D gaming, which, as Peng Lim points out, consumes a high degree of power. As such Samsung/MTI has realized the potential of creative change with the handset manufacturing industry.
