Manufacturer updates
End of the road for BenQ-Siemens
February 27, 2007
The company's insolvency administrator have emailed out a statement, in which he declares that attempts to sell off the business as a whole has failed. The last potential buyer has pulled out of the negotiations.
It looks now that the only options left for the administrator will be to liquidate and sell off the assets seperately.
This is very unfortunate, considering the amount of know-how and technical prowess that was within the group; for example, we had seen prototypes of Siemens handsets, composed entirely of touch screen - similar to a certain iPhone.
Still, what would be interesting to see is the assets that will be sold off; while the office equipment is already available on eBay - will there be any intelectual property (IP) for example. That could interest other phone manufacturers - perhaps BenQ of Taiwan could buy IP - in the form of designs.
