Apple announces plans for i-Phones

November 17, 2006
A recent report by Asian analysts claims that the computer giants Apple have ordered 12 million i-Phones to be made by a Taiwanese manufacturer, for possible release in the Spring of 2007.

There is of course the obvious worry for Apple that the release of the i-Phone would significantly cut into the huge sales of their hugely successful i-pods. However the opportunity for Apple to move into 'mobile music' is too tempting to be avoided. While Apple are already aligned with Motorola in terms of the use of iTunes, this report means that Apple may become a new contender in the competitive handset industry.

Other mobile manufacturers have already experimented with the introduction of ' mobile music', with Nokia introducing its' N series recently and makers of smart phones experimenting with turning a PDA style phones into a music player. These developments it seems are the beginning of what will undoubtedly be a new era in handset development and according to Derrick Wood, Pacific Growth Equities analyst, "in the long term, mobile music is gong to be huge."
